24 × 30 frame size

A 24×30 print has the same 4:5 proportions as 8×10 and 16×20. A nominal 24×30 frame still needs its own exact insert, visible-window and outside measurements checked.

Artwork is the full sheet. Nominal frame size is the stated insert reference. The visible opening is the area left after the frame lip or mat covers the edges. Actual frames, mats, rabbets and listed openings vary by manufacturer; these dimensions do not guarantee fit, preservation, hanging safety, load capacity or compatibility.

Nominal sheet dimensions; conversions are calculated, not tolerance allowances.

Aspect ratio4:55:4

Swapping width and height changes portrait to landscape without changing area. Product features determine which orientations a particular frame supports. A matching ratio preserves shape when scaling an image; it does not make different physical sheet sizes interchangeable.

Without a mat: start with the full 24 × 30 sheet

Compare a frame described for a 24 × 30-inch insert. Measure any printed paper margin as part of that sheet. Do not subtract the front lip from the artwork dimensions unless the supplier explicitly asks for a visible-window measurement. The back opening, depth and clearance must come from the specific product; no universal rabbet allowance is assumed here.

A larger member of the 4:5 family

Multiply an 8×10 image’s dimensions by three or a 16×20 image’s dimensions by 1.5 to reach 24×30 without changing ratio. This does not add pixels or guarantee print quality. A 24×36 frame is six inches taller and has a 2:3 ratio; selecting it for the same digital image changes the crop or the blank borders.

18×24 artwork gives equal borders in a 24×30 board

The board exceeds the 18×24 sheet by 6 inches in both directions. At the sample overlap, the 17.75×23.75 window leaves 3.125-inch borders all around. A 20×24 sheet in that same board gives narrower side borders. Compare the two rows below when a listing offers alternate supplied mats.

Matting a full 24×30 sheet

The larger-board scenarios use 28×34 and 30×36. Each adds the same amount to both artwork dimensions, so each produces equal centered board-edge borders. Confirm custom size availability and the supplier’s exact cut convention before treating either example as an order specification.

With a mat around a full 24 × 30 print

These centered examples use ⅛ inch overlap on each artwork edge, producing a 23.75 × 29.75-inch window. This is an editable illustration, not a prescribed cut. Board sizes are comparison scenarios, including possible custom dimensions; stock availability is not asserted.

Borders are measured from the window to the outer board edge; the frame lip can hide part of them.

Smaller artwork inside a 24 × 30 outer board

This reverses the question: keep the nominal frame at 24 × 30, then compare smaller pictures. It is useful when a listing says “matted to” a smaller photo size. These are calculated scenarios, not a claim about an included mat.

Questions about 24 × 30 frames

Is 30×24 landscape the same nominal format?

Yes. Reversing the dimensions gives the landscape rectangle, with a 5:4 ratio. Product orientation features remain separate.

Can I substitute 60×75 cm?

24×30 inches is 60.96×76.2 cm. The metric rectangle is smaller by 9.6 mm and 12 mm, so compare actual measurements.
