11 × 13 frame size
An 11×13 nominal frame refers to an 11×13-inch insert, equal to 27.94×33.02 cm. Its 11:13 ratio differs from 11×14 and 8×10; the full sheet, mat window and exterior frame dimensions need separate measurements.
Artwork is the full sheet. Nominal frame size is the stated insert reference. The visible opening is the area left after the frame lip or mat covers the edges. Actual frames, mats, rabbets and listed openings vary by manufacturer; these dimensions do not guarantee fit, preservation, hanging safety, load capacity or compatibility.

Swapping width and height changes portrait to landscape without changing area. Product features determine which orientations a particular frame supports. A matching ratio preserves shape when scaling an image; it does not make different physical sheet sizes interchangeable.
Without a mat: start with the full 11 × 13 sheet
Compare a frame described for a 11 × 13-inch insert. Measure any printed paper margin as part of that sheet. Do not subtract the front lip from the artwork dimensions unless the supplier explicitly asks for a visible-window measurement. The back opening, depth and clearance must come from the specific product; no universal rabbet allowance is assumed here.
One inch changes the nominal format
An 11×14 sheet is 1 inch taller than 11×13. A 10×13 sheet is 1 inch narrower. These nearby numbers answer different full-sheet questions, even if a search result or label groups them together. A listed 11×13 mat window may be inside an even larger board; it should not automatically be treated as the outer insert dimension.
An 8×10 picture produces equal borders in this board
A centered 7.75×9.75 example window in an 11×13 board gives 1.625 inches on every side. Changing only the artwork to 8×11 keeps 1.625-inch side borders but reduces the top and bottom to 1.125 inches. This makes 11×13 a useful comparison for an existing rectangular picture, without requiring that picture to be reprinted at the frame’s full nominal size.
Printing to 11×13 is a different operation
To fill an 11×13 print from an 8×10 image, the scaled image becomes 11×13.75 and loses 0.75 inch of total height. Fitting the entire image instead gives 10.4×13, leaving 0.6 inch of total horizontal space. The source image has a 4:5 ratio, while this destination is 11:13. Decide that crop or margin first; then specify the physical paper sheet and any mat overlap.
With a mat around a full 11 × 13 print

Smaller artwork inside a 11 × 13 outer board
This reverses the question: keep the nominal frame at 11 × 13, then compare smaller pictures. It is useful when a listing says “matted to” a smaller photo size. These are calculated scenarios, not a claim about an included mat.

- Confirm the full sheet and the portion of the image that must remain visible.
- Identify the nominal insert, outer mat board and exact cut window separately.
- Request the actual back opening, rabbet depth and manufacturer tolerances. Width and height alone cannot establish suitability for thick artwork.
- Use the listed outside dimensions for a visual gallery layout; these tables do not provide them.
Questions about 11 × 13 frames
Is 11×13 a standard Letter-paper frame?
No. US Letter is 8.5×11 inches. The nominal 11×13 rectangle is a separate format, and its label does not establish a window for a Letter document.
Which larger board gives equal borders around a full 11×13 print?
The 15×17 mathematical example adds 4 inches to each sheet dimension. With the 10.75×12.75 window, each border is 2.125 inches. Availability and actual allowances remain supplier-specific.
Can I infer puzzle compatibility from an 11×13 label?
No. Measure the finished puzzle’s full dimensions and thickness. The nominal rectangle alone does not specify depth, a visible opening or component compatibility.
