THE DIMENSION TOOLKIT

A visual size estimate. Verify the actual artwork, frame, mat, glazing, hardware, wall and manufacturer specifications before buying or arranging a display. Dimensions alone do not guarantee fit.

Choose the reference before choosing the percentage.

Enter the wall section or furniture width that the artwork should relate to. Then choose your own coverage percentage and artwork proportion. The calculator returns the outside display width and height, plus equal side space when centered.

Display width = reference width × chosen coverage percentage
Display height = display width ÷ selected aspect ratio

Worked example: 65% of a 72 inch reference

A 4:3 landscape display at 65% of a 72 inch reference is 46.8 × 35.1 inches, leaving 12.6 inches of visual space on each side when centered.

The percentage is your design input.

There is no universal percentage that guarantees a visually correct result. Test the proposed outside rectangle with removable paper or tape and account for every frame in a grouped arrangement.

This tool sizes decorative rectangles only. It does not provide hanging, anchoring, drilling, wall-material, load-capacity, electrical-location, accessibility or safety advice.

For several frames, continue with the gallery-wall layout planner. For artwork-to-frame fit, use the photo-to-frame calculator.
